Thursday -- August 9, 2012, from 11:00-12:00 Roosevelt Commons Building, 4th floor multi-purpose room or via Adobe Connect<http://connect.washington.edu/ischool-tascha/> Social representations are systems of ideas, values, and practices people adopt to interact with their reality. Starting from this construct, this research investigates community multimedia centres in Mozambique and their perceptions by the local communities. Community multimedia centres are a particular kind of public access to ICTs venue which combine community radio (broadcasting in local languages to a maximum distance ray of 150 kilometers) with facilities of a telecentre. Sara will discuss preliminary results and methodological issues connected to the research (semi-structured interviews, photo-elicitation technique and an application to TASCHA non-users survey). About the presenter Sara Vannini is a PhD Candidate at the Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland). She is currently working on the research and cooperation project RE-ACT, in collaboration with the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (Maputo, Mozambique). Her research interests lie in the area of the social meanings attributed to ICTs and community multimedia centres in Mozambique. .
