MIT's Accelerating Information Technology Innovation (MIT AITI,
http://aiti.mit.edu) is a multidisciplinary group which promotes
technology entrepreneurship in emerging regions. With support from
Google, MIT AITI partners with universities to offer mobile and
Internet technology-intense incubator courses. These courses are
modeled on courses at MIT Sloan and MIT's Course 6 (Comp. Sci & EE).
We offer lessons of real-world, actionable technology and
entrepreneurship experience for the techpreneurs selected from a wide
and competitive pool of applicants; the goal is for them to found
sustainable technology start-ups. To aid our students, MIT AITI builds
and maintains networks of mobile operator contacts, local investors,
mentors, entrepreneurs, and developers centered on each program
location. In the last 2 years, AITI programs have produced technology
start-ups in Kenya, Rwanda and Sri Lanka.
