ICTD Capstone Presentations (CSE 482B)
Monday, June 3, 10:30AM- 12:20 PM, CSE2 371
The ICTD Capstone (CSE 482B) brings together groups of students to work on
projects to provide solutions for low resource environments. Based on an
initial project idea, the students are charged with designing and developing a
prototype system . This quarter, the projects were drawn from the domain of
Global Health, primarily focusing on supporting mobile Apps for clinical
support.
Students will give final presentations and project demos on Monday, June 3,
10:30am-12:20pm in CSE2 371.
The projects are:
ODK 1.5: Remaking ODK in the Modern World
Reliable and intuitive platforms for data collection are essential for critical
information to be gathered and analyzed effectively. As technology evolves, the
tools we rely on must also remain relevant and effective. We see an opportunity
to leverage the technologies of today to enhance capabilities, streamline
usability, and expand ODK's impact. ODK 1.5 explores a modernization of ODK
Collect with the goal of creating a more robust and generalizable data
collection platform that targets the niche needs of those in
resource-constrained environments.

A Content Editing Framework for Mobile Applications
The goal of our project was to create a framework for health researchers to be
able to edit the content on a multilingual app quickly and easily. The starting
point of the project was to replicate the MARA app -- a contraceptive/family
planning app -- but our framework can be generalized for any content app.

Decision Tree WebApps for Health Protocols

We created a web app that takes in decision trees to provide a decision
support tool to aid healthcare workers in diagnosis of conditions via medical
protocols. We have built a parser that is capable of parsing necessary
information utilizing the CSV format of a customizable Excel form representing
a decision tree inputted by users of our webapp. We use this parser to then
generate various screens (similar to a questionnaire) to help a healthcare
professional reach a diagnosis efficiently.

Cold Chain Tracking App
Our app is a mobile app that tracks data related to the status of vaccine
storage refrigerators in developing countries. There are two views: a District
Manager that updates refrigerator information in a specific district, and a
System Administrator that assigns managers to districts. We have offline and
online functionality for the District Manager, and a system of data
synchronization and conflict resolution.

Referral and the Community Health Toolkit
Our project is centered around the work done through the Community Heath
Toolkit. This work specifically is to support women in Kenya after they receive
C-Section through 2 way texting since accessing instant medical assistance for
check-ups isn't always a viable option. We focused on creating data
visualizations from the received data so that health care providers could
better utilize this data to make effective and impactful decisions.
