Didn't mean to pass over your comments about BYB - the tape thing was
just such a shock to the system I had to fire off a response... See
below about BYB...

Yes, in fact I just spoke w/ HUG Inc the other day about the kiosk - it
does still seem feasible, and I do need to contact Tom about it soon.
It will probably be a few weeks, since I have been sukkered into taking
another one of these damned endless /jobs/ and will probably be
enslaved by it at least thru the end of the year (see my comments in
the geeks/jobs thread). I do want to get the thing shipped down there,
though - I should be able to do that in November if all goes well, and
I still want to enlist some of the Freenet/CHAOS guys to help get it
connected to the Freenet - Guys? Anyone interested hacking a COTS wifi
kiosk for little or no reward?

It's a h/w + s/w effort, and I don't know if I'm going to be able to
show up for the fun, but it is alleged to contain both a (cheapo)
Pentium (one of the ones w/ little or no cache - I forget the
marketting name) and a wifi AP packed into a hardened (stainless)
pedastal with a credit-card reader and bill/coin acceptor. The s/w is
proprietary, tied to an MLM-scheme backend - it will have to be wiped.

The idea is to get this thing operational as part of the Freenet,
located in the old Coin-op building in Downtown Columbus, GA.

Will do. I don't have telco connections at the moment (this really is
The Wilderness West of Nowhere) but I'm working to solve that as we
"speak"... thanks for passing the message!
