The pivotal hdfs (hadoop file system) library was added into Chapel, as a
runtime option, in order to provide native, non-jvm, based hdfs support.
The pivotal group moved the pivotal hdfs library into "attic" status at
some point this past year. There's been discussion on github about forking
the project in order to have an active community thread provide upkeep to
the source.
