Hi Chapel Community --

A couple of quick news items as we wrap up the year:

CHIUW 2015
==========
We're pleased to announce that CHIUW (the Chapel Implementers and Users
Workshop) has been accepted as a PLDI workshop in 2015, to be held in
Portland, OR on June 13-14. PLDI is part of ACM FCRC 2015 this year, so
we hope that this will make it easy for members of the Chapel community to
attend, while attracting new participants as well.

This year, CHIUW will continue the talk-based mini-conference format from
last year's workshop on day one. We're excited to announce that Bill
Carlson, one of the founding fathers of PGAS programming, will be our our
keynote speaker. We've also added a second day for code camp activities,
such as pair- and small-group programming opportunities for both users and
developers.

If you have Chapel work you'd like to talk about on day one or a coding
activity to pursue on day two, we encourage you to submit them for
consideration. Talk submissions are due March 20th, and we're encouraging
code camp proposals to be made by then if possible (though we'll consider
coding proposals up to the last minute, as staffing permits).

SC14 Wrap-up
============
The Chapel schedule at SC14 kept us hopping all week long and put us in
contact with a lot of new faces and old friends. During the week at SC14,
the Chapel community had:

   1 tutorial
   1 emerging technologies exhibit and talk on the show floor
   1 ACM SRC poster that won 3rd prize for undergrads (by Ian Bertolacci, CSU)
   2 Chapel-centered BoFs (Lightning Talks and CHUG)
   4 other BoFs at which the Chapel team spoke (LLVM, Python, PGAS, PADAL)
   3 outreach activities to students considering HPC studies/careers
   3 Chapel vines produced to plug our events
   1 CHUG happy hour
   120 Chapel water bottles distributed
   472 slides prepared for presentation

If you want to browse slides from SC14, they are archived online:

Chapel Language Facebook page
=============================
We're striving to keep traffic on this chapel-announce mailing list to a
minimum (~12 posts a year) while pushing information out much more
frequently through our new Chapel Language Facebook page (weekly, if not
more often). If you'd like to keep up with the project on a regular basis
or to peek in on it from time-to-time, surf over to:

        https://www.facebook.com/ChapelLanguage

(note that this works whether or not you're a Facebook user).

Thanks for what's been a great year, and we hope to see you in 2015!
-Brad Chamberlain (on behalf of the Chapel team)
