Hi Chapel community --

This is a quick reminder that CHIUW 2017 -- the 4th annual Chapel
Implementers and Users Workshop -- is taking place next Friday at IPDPS in
Orlando, FL. If you'll be at IPDPS, we hope you'll be able to drop by for
some or all of CHIUW. You can find the program for CHIUW at:

        http://chapel.cray.com/CHIUW2017.html

or a quick rundown of the program towards the end of this message.

CHIUW Lightning Talks?
----------------------
We're thinking about holding a lighting talks session at the close of
CHIUW this year in order to highlight additional Chapel-related speakers
or work that is not part of the formal program. If you would be
interested in giving a lightning talk at CHIUW, please reply to me with
a proposal. Bonus points for humor and/or exciting new technical
results.

CHIUW Code Camp
---------------
On Saturday morning after CHIUW, we'll be holding our annual Chapel Code
Camp. If you'd like to participate and have an activity you'd like to
propose pursuing jointly with other members of the Chapel community,
please reply and let me know. See the CHIUW call for participation for
more information about the code camp (ignoring the out-of-date "pending
sufficient interest" clause -- we've already confirmed the interest):

CHIUW program in a nutshell
---------------------------
CHIUW will feature a great lineup of talks and topics on Friday,
including:

* a keynote from computational scientist Jonathan Dursi, known for his
"R&D computing at scale" blog where his popular/notorious "HPC is Dying
and MPI is Killing it" post appeared. See the CHIUW website for his
full bio as well as the abstract for his talk, "Chapel's Home in the
Landscape of New Scientific Computing Languages (and what it can learn
    from the neighbours)."

* technical talks from the Chapel community on:
    - GraphBLAS
    - the Parallel Research Kernels (PRK) on Intel Xeon Phi ("KNL")
    - sketching streams
    - identifying use-after-free variables
    - targeting GPGPUs with the Radeon Open Compute platform
    - targeting the OFI libfabric networking API

* update talks from the Cray Chapel team on:
    - error-handling
    - arrays and memory management
    - our Computer Language Benchmarks Game entry

...plus our traditional introductory and "state of the project" talks.
Again, find the full program online at:

        http://chapel.cray.com/CHIUW2017.html

We hope to see you at IPDPS and CHIUW!

On behalf of the CHIUW committee,
-Brad
