I always enjoy fantasy/horror books in which the author doesn’t just use an existing occult mythology bit invents a whole new one. Books like Fritz Leiber’s “Our Lady of Darkness”, which I’m reading now. The book concerns megapolisomancy, which could be described as the occult science of big cities. Supposedly invented by a mythical author called Thibaut de Castries at the end of the 19^th century, megapolisomancy deals with the destructive energies stored by big cities, energies that can give rise to dangerous occult beings called paramentals. These destructive energies are not just things like electricity, but also arise from the geometry of cities. Diagonal streets are especially hazardous. Neopythagorean metageometry can unlock the secrets of these energies. I just love stuff like this!
