correcting myself -- the lancer collection in question was "the dark man & 
others." i'm pretty sure i bought my copy through a mail-order ad in erbdom by 
the anthologist vic ghidalia, though the highlight of that purchase was surely 
meade & penny frierson's landmark "hpl."
