Charles Villagers,
'Tis the season of higher incidences of robberies/break-ins. Be especially
alert and practice good ongoing safety habits: don't leave items in your car
in plain sight, lock the car doors, lock you home's doors and windows, keep
your front & back door lights on, - you get the drift. If you find City street
lights are not on at night or in the early morning when its still dark or just
not working property, please call 311 and give specific address details.
Let's keep CV safe this Winter/Holiday season.
The CVCA's January General Membership meeting Wednesday 1/26 is devoted to
Safety with guests Gregg Bernstein, Baltimore City's new States
Attorney, Deputy Major Worley of the Northern District Police Department and Ed
Skrodsky of JHU Security. We'll also receive an update from the CVCA Safety
Committee to include information about the Charles Village Safety Council
Advisory & Court Watch program and a Safety presentation by the CVCBD.
As always, we continue to provide 25th Street Station updates at each of our
meetings and on the website. Please mark your calendars & join us 1/26.
Happy Holidays!
Jennifer

School funding cuts, teacher pension shifts, and further unforeseen cuts are
very real possibilities this year due to the massive budget shortfall. We can
do our part to prevent these cuts by organizing the community to pressure their
legislators to support our schools.
The Baltimore Education Coalition is a well-established group that has
prevented similar cuts to BCPS in the past, and is working even harder this
year to combat these new threats. So please urge your friends, neighbors,
colleagues, etc to attend the BEC Advocacy Training on Thursday, January 13th
from 5:30-8:30 at Digital Harbor HS so they can learn how to advocate for their
public schools.

& provide your input:
New Years Resolution:
WORK TO ACHIEVE ZERO-BASED RECYCLING!
But how and where and at what cost?
For budget reasons, Baltimore City has discontinued its twice-annual Hazardous
Waste collection at Poly/Western high schools, and neighborhood drop-off
centers, like Sisson Street, prohibit hazardous waste disposal. As a result,
Baltimoreans are often frustrated at how difficult it is to recycle many
household, business and maintenance items, e.g., oil-based paint, car
batteries, printer ink and motor oil.
To help our 14th District residents and businesses address the need for
cost-effective recycling help and information, please take a few minutes to
answer our recycling survey, but only if you live or work in Baltimore City,
please.

HOLIDAY TREE RECYCLING/MULCHING
Baltimore City's' Dept of Public Works will provide Holiday tree mulching
Monday through Saturday during the entire month of January 2011. Mulching
services will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at BOTH the Sisson Street
Citizen Drop-off Center, 2840 Sisson Street, AND the Reedbird Avenue Citizen
Drop-off Center, 701 Reedbird Avenue. Residents may bring their own bags or
containers if they wish to collect mulch for their own use. Community groups
are also encouraged to bring bags or containers and collect free mulch for
neighborhood gardens while supplies last.
For residents who cannot bring their trees for mulching, the Bureau of Solid
Waste will offer curbside tree collection from Tuesday, January 4, 2011 through
Friday, January 28, 2011. Residents should set out trees on their regularly
scheduled trash collection day at the same location where their trash is
collected. All tinsel and ornaments must be removed from trees before they are
set out for curbside collection or mulching.
