NEW UPSCALE ENTERPRISES SEEK TO STRENGTHEN CHARLES VILLAGE
Carl Vahl owner and Chef at Calle’s Cucina (www.callescucina.com) and
Roshe’ Anthony, owner of
Roshe’ Cosmetics, LLC (www.roshecosmetics.com) and BEAT Make Up School
seek to strengthen the
revitalization already underway in Charles Village. Roshe’ Cosmetics
and Calle’s Cucina both occupy
recently vacant commercial storefronts on St. Paul Street between 24th
and 25th Streets.
Both new businesses underwent soft openings in late 2011. Roshe’ in
November and Calle’s in
December. Both have invested liberally in Charles Village by renewing
the interior and exterior of their
respective buildings, Roshe’ at 2429 St. Paul and Calle’s at 2431-2433
St. Paul.
Roshe’ Cosmetics is a full service enterprise dedicated to the service
and beauty needs of clients
across the U.S. Roshe’ provides clients with inspiration, guidance,
and results by striving to be the resource
for all things beauty! Roshe’ Cosmetics is poised to assist its
clients in refreshing themselves with Roshe’s
own line of botanically based skincare treatments and to revive
themselves by starting a new career with
BEAT. BEAT stands for “Beauty Expert Artistry Training” which seeks to
transform “looking good” into an
elegant art form.
Calle’s Cucina is an upscale, eclectic, Italian and Scandinavian
focused, BYOB restaurant located
right next door to Roshe’ Cosmetics. Calle’s Cucina offers fine dining
complete with linen tablecloths on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 6:00 pm. followed
by an elegant brunch on Sunday
from 9:00 am. to 2:00 pm., lunch is offered Wednesday through
Saturday. The owner and chef is Carl Vahl,
a former attorney, who also owns and operates Baltimore Distinctive
Home Dining, a private chef for hire
company offering in home fine dining.
Chef Vahl took possession of the space formerly occupied by the Yabba
Pot Restaurant in October
and spent 60 days cleaning, painting and refurbishing the space,
transforming it into an elegant, European
style bistro-ristorante with an open kitchen.
Calle’s Cucina is also an art gallery, which is currently displaying
artwork by several local artists
including Robert Brent, (www.robertbrent.com, Danielle Chi,
(www.daniellechi.com) Daniel Pham
(www.danielphamphotos.com) and students from the Baltimore Lab School
located at 2220 St. Paul Street.
Baltimore Lab School, (www.baltimorelabschool.org) a division of the
Lab School of Washington, is a day
school for bright students with moderate to severe learning
disabilities in grades 1-12. The school's
innovative arts-based curriculum helps young people overcome
difficulties in reading, writing, and math,
while preparing them for a rewarding range of college and career
choices.
Carl and Roshe’ are coordinating their respective grand openings to
demonstrate their joint
commitment to private enterprise and art and they hope a large group
of friends, neighbors, local business,
community and political leaders will attend to draw attention to the
revitalization of the entire community.
To date councilpersons Carl Stokes and Mary Pat Clark, leaders of the
Homewood, Old Goucher, and
Charles Village Community Associations, Old Goucher Business Alliance
and the Baltimore Rotary Club
have confirmed their plans to attend. Baltimore Lab School students,
teachers, administrators and parents are
also expected to attend. Artwork by all the artists will be available
for purchase.
Roshe’ and Carl are proud to say they created their businesses
without tax breaks, low interest
loans, government grants or assistance of any nature.
Both businesses will be open to the public and a ribbon cutting
ceremony will be held at 4:00 pm.
Calle’s Cucina will supply hors d'oeuvres and complementary
beverages.
