As Bill points out you need an A suffix to the proc name for that dll
call. Any windows api call that has char arguments typically has a
version with the A suffix for ascii (1 byte chars) or W for wide char.
In most cases you will want the A version.

Not sure why you working with duplicate socket. I would think the
normal J socket library would give you enough to get things done.

I'm a bit tied up this week (conference in England) so my replies will
be short and incomplete. My suggestion would be that you dig a bit
more into what JHS has to offer and how it does it. You mention that
the JHS console was locked. Keep in mind that normally that console
task is running on the server and doesn't even have a terminal
session. With JHS you have complete access to the J repl through the
jijx browser app. In addition to the ide jijx interface you can create
any javascript page you want that can use J as a repl (either in the J
language or in a language designed especially for the app). Get
familiar with jijx/jijs/file pages that are standard parts of JHS and
then look at the demos for custom app examples.
