I think a public or semi-public JHS would serve well for any sort of
"Introduction to J" workshop.  One of the things I got out of the education
workshop I attended yesterday is the teaching pattern of "I do"-"we
do"-"you do": where I (the instructor) demonstrate something, the class
works on an example together, then students take on a task by themselves
(or in small groups).

To do this, everyone needs to be able to access J.  I spoke with a Ruby
enthusiast who admitted that installing Ruby (perhaps with Rails) is a
non-trivial exercise in its own right and that Ruby workshops often are
preceded by an "Install Night" during which everyone gets on the same page
by installing a common version of Ruby with whatever tools will be needed.

Having a web-accessible version of J would simplify this aspect of
introducing people to it, even though the J installation seems relatively
straightforward and quick.
