I'd like to recmmend the matasano crypto challenge to anyone interested in working on the J source code.
I remember finding what I considered a serious bug in J's implementation of b. while working on the first problem set, but because of the agreement necessary for participating in the challenge I felt I should not share the code and data that triggered the bug. I've been meaning to get back into it, once I had a good debugging environment set up, but now that I'm getting there I'm seeing so many other issues I want to deal with that I'm not sure if I'll have time to track down this one. (Not just in J - I find myself pulled by a wide variety of projects, and I'm just one person.) There's only so much that one person can do, but we all get something useful done. Anyways, I thought I should mention this before I go back to a different kind of debugging.
