I will second David's position. Apart from Mathematica being free on Raspberry Pi I think it also appears less weird (inconsequential to me...otherwise I wouldn't be commenting on this forum!) to people, primarily teachers. Maybe J can be introduced when students are comfortable with Mathematica? However this introduces possibility for confusion and chaos.
