Ok, but it's worth understanding that there are two different concepts
of "correct" here, with different people claiming that their camp is
correct, for both camps.

It's also worth remembering that human language is ambiguous. (Every
dictionary has to grapple with this issue in some form or another. The
Oxford dictionaries do the best job of representing this of any
dictionary that I have seen.)

Of course, there are also standards. The nice thing about standards is
that there are so many to choose from.

Luckily, this doesn't really matter, and people tend to put some
effort into resolving the obvious ambiguities.
