Agreed re {. }.
I suppose an APL-er, familiar with up- and down-arrows for take and
drop, might
not appreciate the mnemonic nature of {. and }. .... but I started with
APL and don't
recall any problem with remembering/recognising these J symbols.
Learning problems enough elsewhere, though!

It seems to me that since in { } the { is on the left and the } is on
the right that it should be pretty easy to remember that the result of
{. comes from the part that's to the left of the part that the result
of }. comes from.
But I'm probably overlooking something important -- I usually do...
