Hi all,

After much reworking, I'm happy to announce the pre-release of FreeWeb 0.1.2
alpha.
(Actually, it's now closer to a beta than an alpha, but I'm tending towards
conservative version numbers).

I have no doubt that those of you who tried out the previous 0.1a version
will notice a vast improvement now.

Features include:
* No more bloaty java native interface
* Installer file is 780k, almost 90% smaller
* Uses only FCP, resulting in a big boost to speed and reliability
* Automatic generation of index.html files, Gnutella-style (optional)
* Replaces all of FProxy's browsing functionality
* Includes an FProxy-derived gateway page
* Fast, efficient multi-threaded freesite insertions
* Automatically keeps track of *every* file, re-inserting only those files
which are seen to have changed (timestamp).
* Drastic simplification of DNS without losing security - no more need
for me or anyone to run a 'DNS registry'.
* No more restriction of 32 sites per user
* Cookies fully supported in http proxy while anonymity filter is off
* Smoother and more intuitive operation overall
* Bug fixes galore

The first 20 people to download will receive a free set of [virtual] steak
knives.
(if this key 404's at HTL > 80, please tell me, and I'll stick it up on the
web somewhere - due to Sourceforge shell outage I can't put it up on the
freeweb sourceforge site just yet

Note also - a console-based Linux version is coming soon.

I look forward to hearing of your experiences with 0.1.2

Cheers
David
