I'm afraid this won't help Linux users, but on my home & work system I
defragged my Freenet folders and Freenet speeded up considerably.

I tried using an old version of DiskKeeper lite on the NT system but it's
crap! So I used the Win2K built-in defrag to do the disk and then a
command-line util called contig (from www.sysinternals.com) to do the
specific folders.

Not sure about the answering of handshakes though?
