Hi!

I'm currently running a dual boot with Linux and Win2k, and since I've
finally got a broadband connection at home I decided to set up a
FreeNet node in order to contribute to the project. I happily set up
my node under both Linux and Win2k, working to the same shared data
store, and they both work fine.

However, when I looked in the e-mail archives to see if there was any
issues regarding this, I gathered that there would be problems with
this kind of setup. The problems would be that there are different
paths used to the files in the data store and the filename conventions
are different.

Which leads me on to my question: Why, oh why, are there absolute path
names stored in the data store? This seems, to my unenlightened mind,
to be a very silly design. Typically, it prevents any form of
relocating of the data store directories, and also prevents things
like running a common datastore on a dual boot.

The absolute base path to the data store is already configured in the
freenet.ini file, why do you duplicate this information elsewhere?

If there's a good reason for this, please enlighten me. :)

Cheers!

Daniel
