Note also that relational programming (SQL) can work quite well
in highly parallel contexts.

The SQL standard is almost deliberately crippled, as a programming
language (for example: inner product is easy to implement, but
gauss-jordan elimination seems rather difficult), but I think that
that's a fixable issue.
