You might consider colour in the Wiki though (and I guess it's used already to emphasise preformatted code). Colour works best if it's used very sparingly. You don't want it all to look like Times Square.
Hiliting the code font (or its background) is only feasible if it doesn't disrupt a tabulation relying on fixed-font spacing. You might query the logic of hiliting code anyway. Gene does it, however, to succintly convey pertinent information. Allied to this general question, I think I've found an answer to the problem of representing a continuation line of code on the printed page. Embed a tiny bitmap (eg a grey arrow). Copy/paste into the J session will not recognise this as a character, not even a unicode one. So I no longer need shrink the code font until it all fits on one line (...soooo ugly!) NB. There's already a policy for splitting too-long comments. NB. ...Just start a new NB.
