I also upgraded from J501 to J602 just by downloading to the laptop and the storage card and then sticking the card into the handheld and it was all done. I actually have no sync going between the handheld and a pc. The sync was never working properly anyway and the handheld regularly loses everything except what is on the storage card. The storage card has 1 GB of storage and only holds J stuff.
