Actually, a publication date of "March 2, 1997" is given on the
Amazon page (in the section with ISBN and other details) - but my
first printing/edition (which is single volume hardbound on very thin
paper!) says printed February 1997 - as does the rather more concise
description at:

   http://www.powells.com/biblio?isbn=978-0201105575

I think the 2 volume "trade paperback" version must have been some
time later - but neither book store seems clear... On the whole, I
like book descriptions at powells.com better than amazon.com, they
have less flash and are in a more consistent format.
