I've been reading through the older forum archives (fascinating!) and
came across both a problem I noted with the archives, a practical
request, and a historical question/request (these may all be Chris
Burke issues):
(1) Why do the "thread" and "subject" archive views for the same month
NOT always agree? I discovered that I found messages ever so often
that were in one or the other but not BOTH, as they should be. For my
purposes, it means I have to constantly cross-check BOTH forum views to
be sure I'm not missing any of the conversation on a topic.
(2) For the "date" view, can the message dates and times PLEASE be
DISPLAYED as part of the view (perhaps the first element)? The current
"date" view is equivalent to a "subject" view without any subjects
displayed! It doesn't do any good to display messages in date order
without having any idea what the date and time is. (Messages sometimes
refer to other messages by date and, since dates don't display in
"thread" or "subject" or "author" views, one would expect to at least
see them in "date" views.)
(3) Apparently, in the REALLY OLD days of the forums, attachments were
permitted. Occasionally, some of these are retrievable ("scrubbed
HTML", whatever that is). However, some of them seem (in hindsight)
extremely useful and practical, because they were J code (noted by .ijs
name as attachments), which could be valuable for learning purposes.
However, these really "good" ones seem irretrievable and "lost"
forever. Is that really the case? Or is there some way that these
attached J scripts can be retrieved?
Thanks!
Harvey
