I started making applications 15 years ago that started independent J sessions to do special tasks working on data that was passed around.
I usually had some control files that other processes could check so they would not interfere with other processes that needed to be finished. Most of the processes where started by scheduled services from the operating system. Quite often processes were running in parallel. Some of the processes were sending data automatically between machines and got and sent data to processes outside J. 2010/2/15 bill lam <[email protected]>: > Apart from the startup time and memory cost, the biggest problems are > the need to tailor the algorithm by programmer for each for its > applications, synchronisation of sessions, the memory bandwidth it > took to transfer data between session.
