In the timeframe of 1979 - 1984 I worked in a DP department for a
trucking company. We had an IBM System/34. We programmed in RPG II

There was an article I read during that era out of a trade journal (I
think it was Datamation) that was rather 'off topic' for that magazine.
The article was about a the results of a personality profile survey of
DP managers. Such a survery might garner different results now days,
but I found it very interesting - it struck close to home.

Some of the conclusions I recall were:

- A large share of the DP managers surveyed were college drop-outs.
- While they may have had strong opinions about issues at work, or in
some other field in which they were well-versed (such as a hobby - like
anyone had time for a hobby) they tended to downplay their opinions on
topics where they knew they weren't particularly knowledgeable. Some
even took it to the degree of ardently disclaiming having any opinion on
topics where they knew their knowledge to be scant or shallow.
- While many put a high personal value on family life, many failed at it.

If anyone recalls such a survey and can point me to a copy of it, I
would certainly appreciate it.
