I have tried several free programs to copy dvd to hard disk and all failed on one thing or another and many of the files to be copied seemed damaged.
Spent countless fruitless hours on some of the dvds without managing to copy them. This evening I finally discovered how to use VLC to both play the dvd and record what is played at the same time and send the output to a file. As it happens there are advanced controls in VLC which show the record button. Now it is as easy as pushing a button to copy the dvd.
