When cars first came out anyone driving one had to be an amateur mechanic.
Now I can't even find the spark plugs on our car, to my surprise when I was
going to change them. The same thing is happening to computing. The issue
now is not how to solve a problem, but how to present the problem to the
user. It's sort of an "ugly phase" we are going through on the interface to
the user. We have to try every neat tool available in our presentation. To
the point that at first glance the application looks great, until you try to
do something off beat.

I will never forget a presentation IBM made on a great new keyboard they
just came out with. Management at the front of the audience was shaking
their heads in excitement as to all the things it would do. Then I glanced
to the back of the room where the data entry people were slumped down in
their chairs shaking their heads.
