Is it the 17.1 variant?

kernel-3.10.0-693.11.1.el7.x86_64.rpm (From 5 Dec 2017) does not have
the problem for me... (There is also 11.6 for 4 Jan, which I haven't
tried)

It might be a virtualisation (or KVM)-specific issue.

Proxmox is just a KVM front-end...

(It is a lab system, on relatively old hardware - some of the older
CPUs might have slower Meltdown fixes than others, although just about
everyone rolled back the microcode fixes that would have allowed
somewhat fater mitigation) (It is a ~2007 Xeon)
