There is no doubt that life would have been easier for all of us if all participants in the CMIS standard would have had the same open source tradition like those currently engaged in the Apache Chemistry project. But the fact that CMIS is able to break barriers in the relation of more traditional oriented software companies is something that shouldn't be underestimated IMHO. However we end in managing the fragmentation, let's benefit from this.
