# August Meetup Minutes

Around 30 people gathered at IMSc Alladi Ramakrishnan Hall.
Vijay asked us to introduce ourselves.
He also gave an introduction to the Chennaipy meetup and explained what to
expect from a meetup.

Vijay asked for a timekeeper to keep track of the talk durations and notify
the speakers.

Time Keeper: Jerin

We started with the first talk by Abhishek:
- His talk was about the SWE Bench leaderboard.
- He explained how these leaderboard scores are calculated.
- AI agents’ efficiency for code generation was tested using 2294 GitHub
problems.
- There were a lot of questions from the audience. It was truly an engaging
talk, BTW.

The second talk was by Arokiyaraj:
- His talk was about parsing financial data from PDFs and how complex it
was.
- He explained how even small layout changes in the PDF would affect the
output.
- He wrote an AI agent to solve this problem.
- He also showed a demo.
- He mentioned that he is still exploring how to leverage AI to quickly
adapt when PDF content changes.
- I think what he is trying to do is a solution for an important business
problem faced by many.

At exactly 4:20, the talk was over, and we had 10 minutes before the tea
break.
We decided to break early, and the audience quickly started networking with
each other.
At 4:30, tea and coffee with biscuits arrived. The break was longer than
planned and went on till 5:20 PM.

The third talk was by Praveen:
- His talk was about the CAN protocol.
- Praveen started by explaining the CAN architecture.
- He had an ESP32 and Arduino-based hardware setup.
- He had two CAN devices.
- He demonstrated how CAN messages are broadcast.
- He also showed how he controlled a game using CAN signals instead of
keystrokes as input.

The above talk was really engaging, and the audience were curious to know
how ECUs work, and started a healthy discussion that went on for 15
minutes.
Vijay explained how microservices are taking over ECUs.
There was also a discussion about Protocol Buffers. Thanks to Praveen for
giving this talk.

## Lightning Talks

- **Shiv** introduced us to prompting techniques to get the most out of
ChatGPT. He walked us through the document.
- **Jerin** spoke about ML models and LLMs. He emphasized understanding the
differences between the two.
- An **IMSc physics PhD student** spoke about Quantum Computing. He
presented an *f(n)* function and asked how many ways the problem could be
solved.
He really triggered the audience to ask questions.
We requested him to give a detailed talk on Quantum Computing in the next
meetup. Hopefully, he comes up with something exciting for us to learn.
- **Rengaraj** spoke about fitness. He discussed occupational hazards faced
by software engineers. He urged everyone to take care of their health while
working hard.
