Maybe my question is too obvious but I have to be sure if Apache and
Cherokee can be running on the same system at the same time.
I ask this because I think it could be a very good idea to recommend
Cherokee as the server for hosting control panels.
There are good news and bad news. The bad ones is that currently it
doesn't make much sense to run Cherokee and Apache in the same
system.
I would say if you have a choice, Cherokee is the hands-down winner for
your web server. But if you need to use something like mod python or
webdav (which I consider more important than a proxy), then obviously,
you have to suffer with Apache.
The good news is that we have started to work in a proxy handler.
Basically it is going to implement a HTTP proxy (+ cache) for
Cherokee.
the good news is that in the short term, before the embedded proxy is
finished, you can use pound as your proxy to Cherokee and Apache.
seriously though on Webdav, it is becoming an increasingly important
part of web servers. I'm starting to see a lot of applications use it
as a form of remote file storage. Personally, I was just using it as a
convenient way to upload data to a web server.
