[Cherokee] error in pcre_exec when compiling

I am trying to buld Cherokee-0.5.3 in ArchLinux current using pcre-6.6.   
Build goes fine until this line:

 .libs/libcherokee-server.so: undefined reference to `pcre_exec'.
ArchLinux uses the following build tools:

autoconf-2.59
automake-1.9.6
gcc-4.0.3
m4-1.4.4
make-3.81
pcre-6.6

configure goes fine, but build fails

Any ideas on how to resolve this?
