Hi,
A few of you may be aware of my efforts to get Cherokee running properly
under Windows. After spending a day writing some build scripts, I've got a
working build of 0.5.3.
Alvaro (alo) has provided hosting for my Win32 binary release - you can
grab the installer from <http://www.0x50.org/download/windows/>.
There are (as always) a few known bugs in the current incarnation of the
Windows port:
- The uninstaller doesn't work. At all. If you want to uninstall Cherokee,
use the uninstaller, then delete C:\Program Files\Cherokee and the Start Menu
entries for it. Cherokee/win32 doesn't leave any registry entries behind, nor
does it write to any files outside its little "nest" in the Program Files
directory. It's very well-behaved compared to most Windows applications :)
- When you run Cherokee, it'll pop up a warning in the error log about the
"fastcgi" module. This is because I've built the fastcgi module into Cherokee
statically, and it displays this warning when it's initialised. I'm working on
tweaking my build scripts to get this fixed.
The Windows port should work mostly the same as the Linux port. It doesn't
run as a service (yet), but it works fine as a normal user application. When
you start it, you should see a "Cherokee" window minimised to the Taskbar.
Open it, and you'll be able to view the message log.
For now SSL/TLS support isn't enabled. I'm going to look into building
Libgnutls for MinGW, but for now if you need SSL you'd be better off using
something like STunnel to provide it.
If you have any problems with the Windows port - especially the installer,
uninstaller or any of the Windows-specific stuff, please let me know. Opening
a bug report in Trac (<http://www.0x50.org/bugs/>) might also be a good idea.
Thanks.
