having been burned by Apache one time too many this week, I'm looking for a replacement. I was recommended to Cherokee as a possible replacement. Here's what I need the Web server to do:

Virtual hosts
virtual hosts server name aliases
404 handler for different URLs (ie. http://www.demo.com/ and http://www.demo.com/sub/ have different handlers)
REDIRECT_URL properly set during a 404 events
CGI
works with mailman
directory level access control
the ability to log X-Forwarded-for: addresses in place of the upstream proxy address.
setting environment variables on per directory basis before calling a CGI.

can Cherokee help me or am I doomed to keep fighting with Apache configurations? Also, where do you hide your configuration documentation?

I appreciate any help you can give me.

The result of the duopoly that currently defines "competition" is that
prices and service suck. We're the world's leader in Internet
technology - except that we're not.
