Hola, I recognise the same problem with dependencies of mediawiki, it sucks. The dependencies are defined in the control file in each Debian package. So it is the problem of the package maintainer, not a cherokee problem. On the other hand the cherokee maintainer could provide httpd with the cherokee package (as a virtual package? ) as a workaround. It sucks that nearly every package in Debian provided for a web based application has apache* as a dependency. A good solution would be something like 'sensible-webserver". But that would be a matter of Debian policy...
