Actually, maybe the opposite would hold - The Debian package does not
depend (or even recommend or suggest) PHP. If the default
configuration we are shipping _is_ referencing PHP, maybe the package
should recommend or suggest it¹. If the default configuration is ready
for PHP, maybe PHP should be present for the casual user - But then
again, how many information sources should we present by default?
Shouldn't probably PHP rather be absent from the default configuration
file? After all, it's not that Cherokee is closer to PHP than to any
other web development language/technology


¹ What is the difference? They are basically two levels -
  'Recommended' packages are installed by default upon installation
  but can be removed with no ill efects; suggestions are not installed
  by default (unless you so specify systemwide)
