First of all, why didn't you try to install it via the PPA? You can find
it at https://launchpad.net/~cherokee-webserver/+archive/ppa
Sure, there are scenarios where compiling from source makes sense but in
most cases it's  easier to just install the packages. You'll also get
the latest version which is 1.0.4 by now.
