The version of Cherokee in the Debian (Lenny/stable) repository is quite
outdated, version 0.7.2 I think. Cherokee has made it all the way to
version 1.0.8 now and there have been many improvements along the way.
There are Debian specific instructions on the project site (
http://www.cherokee-project.com/doc/basics_installation_unix.html) that
address how to get a recent version of Cherokee in Debian. I suggest you
update to a recent version before proceeding.
