Regarding your question, I'd recommend you to check php.ini settings. At the end of the day, that's what will use most of the resources of your server. In case you had some spare memory, I'd also recommend you to ensure "I/O Cache" is enabled in Cherokee. That will increase the performance of the web server.. though, php will continue consuming the same amount of resources.
