Subject: [Chevelle-List] Got the itch

Every year around this time I get the itch to get another Chevelle. I sold
my 67 SS in 1988 to move to Florida after owning it for 13years. I bought
it in '75 for $100 to save it from the crusher and spent two years
scrounging parts and getting it re-assembled. The 67 was never a show
quality car, but it was a great driver (427, 4spd, disc brakes, air,
cruise). The CFO (wife) is pretty close to giving her blessing, so it's
time to get serious about planning. This time around I am looking to build
a 67 or 69 SS hardtop for occasional street duty.
My main concerns for the next one are suspension and brakes. Good handling
and four wheel disc brakes are an absolute must. The last one sat about an
inch and a half lower than stock, had a rear sway bar and 69 Chevelle discs
up front. This worked well, but I want the new ride to be even better.
Obviously, I'm a little rusty and not completely informed, so can anyone
give me some insight into the following issues?
1) Four wheel disc conversions; Baer vs. SS Brakes vs. MP Brakes vs.
prowling bone yards. Has anyone gone this route?
2) One piece vs. two piece spindles? Control arms?
3) Sway bars, springs, bushings, linkage. Are urethane bushings really
noisy? What about polygraphite?
Sorry for a lot of questions, but there is a lot of research to be done
before I even start looking for a suitable car.
Thanks in advance,
Bob King
