I have had a bad experience with the tow dollies, and as far as I am
concerned, my car will never be back on one. It was a freek accident at
very low speeds (less than 5 mph) but I have seen it happen on more than one
occasion. I had to tow the old girl home one day and when I was pulling
onto my road a chain came loose from the front tire, making the car half way
fall off the dolly, making the front bumper hit the fender of the dolly,
making the fender have contact with the bumper and leave a cute little dent,
while all at the same time the other chain binder popped loose and the car
took off by itself, leaving me having to bail out the passenger side of the
truck and chase my car down, luckily I left the windows down and I jumped
through and hit the brake with my hand while still halfway hanging out.....
even more luckily I live in the middle of nowhere and nobody was coming down
the road. I now have my 6' 1/2 X 12' trailer rigged up with ramps so next
time I am stranded or broke down I can roll it up there, so far I haven't
had to use it. I am not saying not to go the dolly route, I am saying be
very careful, the same thing could happen with a trailer but I feel a lot
safer with the thought of the car being up on the trailer than a dolly.
Just my personal opinion.
