Hey Guys -
With today's cam and head technology these big-inch small blocks can be
built to put out in excess of 500 lbs-ft. Sounds like a big block number to me!
My 406 made 421hp and 497tq on the dyno, and another list member's 406 made 545
lbs-ft! Dynos don't lie, and I have seen countless magazine buildups showing
similar results. Granted, the overall power curve of a BBC with similar peak
numbers will be different, with the hp and tq peaks coming in at lower rpm
levels. But, when you factor in the BBC weight penalty and the cheaper cost of
building a SBC, the big-inch small blocks are a viable alternative to a
"traditional" BBC buildup. My $.02, FWIW. BTW, I am planning on having my new
427 SBC dynoed, and I will be posting the results to the list when I get them.
The engine builder expects to see 500+hp and well over 500 lbs-ft.
