The car- 1979 Chevrolet El Camino w/ v-6 and ? auto-trans, motor and trans
removed by previous owner.
The motor- 1986? Buick Regal v-8 w/ ? auto-trans. Was purchased from
neighbor who got it out of his rolled low rider.
I didn't know they drove fast enough to roll anything....:)
I want to put the buick motor in the El Camino. I was looking, and it looks
like the computer plug-ins should work, but I dunno as the elky originally
came with a v-6 and I'm stuffing a v-8 in it. Since I'm not worried about
emissions ;o), I was thinking I could just put in a non-emissions distributor
and carb (q-jet, I already have one) and have a running car.
79's had no computer....don't bother with it.
But, there's sssooooooooooo much damn vacuum lines and the such all over the
thing... I just want to hack it all out. I'm just not sure I should get rid
of all the computer stuff because I don't want trouble codes shooting all
over the place.
You won't have any codes cause the car has no computer to begin with (and adding one would be a nightmare of wiring additions).
I guess all I want here is a little encouragement, advise, (links!) whatever
as to what I should do. Thanks everyone...
Get a vacuum advance distributor and a non-CCC carb and go to town in style...without all the crap that burdened the 80's cars. The 80's were filled with stop gap additions to the motors to meet fed guidelines...it'll breath and run much better without them.
Whatever you do, you'll be better off without the smog equipment...my '83 runs so much smoother without it all.
