Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Malibu SS
info
Nice looking car Dave ......thanks for the info
from everyone .
Dave while you were restoring the 66 Malibu SS
did you come across any info that idicated that it was possible to order the
SS 396 grill and rear cove that came with the SS 396 badges on it ( or were
they only available as unmarked stock Malibu grill and cove that are on
your car ) and was the domed hood available as well or were they only put
on the Chevelle SS cars in trhe US....... I know that you could get the
396 engine option , what I don't know is if you could get the trim package
that the Chevelle SS in the States came with.
Here is the info I have been able to obtain
.....please anyone correct the errors you see !!!
In the US in 1966 the Chevelle SS became a
big block only car ( and in fact a separate Chevelle model all together
)
however
In Canada in 66 the tariffs were so high on the
US made Chevelle cars that GM Canada still offered the Malibu as a SS
car that could be ordered with a variety of engines from small block
right up to the 396.
These cars carried scripting on the rear
quarters that read .... Malibu SS ( SS circled ) ...... NOT "supersport"
as in the US
They came with a stock hood ( no domes
)
They came with stock grills and rear coves ( no
SS badges on them )
They came with chromed rocker panels but did not
include the strip from the rear wheel to rear bumper ( stock Malibu
)
So what I want to find out
is...........
Because the Canadian made Malibu SS came with so
many options as far as motor etc.........were the above listed
trim items that came on the US made Chevelle SS's made available as
options on the Canadian made Malibu SS as well ?????
