Both 68's 396's so this is slightly on topic for this group However my question centers around my 64 Corvette which I am thinking of swapping out the Close Ratio 4 speed and replacing it with a Wide Ratio 4 speed. The car is a 327 365 HP solid lifter CORRECT car (which I am not into really). BUT it has a 3.08 rear and honestly it does kick ass once you get it rolling...comes alive at about 2400 RPM and stays right on the power curve up until 6300 RPM ... But it sure is not a hole shot car...in fact it is the only car that I have to feed it gas to even get it rolling...can't just slowly let out the clutch. Current correct trans has a 2.20 1st wheras the wide ratio has a 2.54 1st (I think) swapping out the transmission would give me much more bottom end without loosing much at the top... BECAUSE I really do not cruise above 100 MPH all that much... Played with the idea of just swapping the rear gears....(but I figure a used wide ratio Trans would be both cheaper (and a heck of a lot easier to swap) then the rear...(Vettes are sometimes a pain..) So the big question... what year(s) wide Ratio Trans will bolt up to the car... and from what makes can I expect to find one... Thanks for the help... and any ideas....
