Thanks for the exhaust info. Today when I stopped in to drop off some
oil & buy some odds & ends at Pep Boys, I looked around & found an
off-the-shelf 2.5 3" extender piece (2.5" ID on one end and 2.5" OD on
the other). In a pinch, one of these per side would account for the 3"
lesser length of a 3-chamber Flowmaster muffler vs. a stock one & 2 of
these per side would account for the missing 6" of a 2-chamber
Flowmaster. Tomorrow I'll check with the other local auto parts stores
(e.g. NAP) and see what they have.

Earlier in the day, I called the Flowmaster tech line & was surprised
when they couldn't tell me whether either pair of their mufflers paired
with their tailpipes would work "out of the box" with stock length engine
pipes to stock manifolds without needing any extenders (when I asked, the
guy acted like the question was from another planet, although I would
have thought that question would have been run by them once or twice
before!). The guy did seem to be pushing the use of the 3-chamber
muffler instead of the 2-chamber muffler, though. Besides reminding me a
couple of times that the HP flow is the same through them, he said that
the 3-chamber would still be very loud & it would have more of a bass
rumble sound, as opposed to the 2-chamber higher pitch "raspy" sound
(anybody got a coin I can flip?).

P.S. I'm also hoping that a real auto parts store can help me find a new
"sock" for my gas tank sending unit (if I had had the the latest Year One
catalog when I ordered the gas tank h/w last week from them, I would've
had them throw one of them in, too, but I didn't think they sold them
since they didn't have them listed on my old catalog).
