My combo is as follows

400 SB, .030-over, flat-top forged pistons on stock 5.7 rods, .010/.010 400
crank. Rotating assembly is balanced.
Cam : Summit grind (hyd), 234/244 duration at .050", 488/510 lift.
Heads: Lightly ported 1971 487X castings with 1.94/1.50 valves. Stock
rockers.
Intake: Performer RPM, Holley 750 vacuum secondaries
1 5/8" headers, HEI ignition. Headers are open at dragstrip

Trans: Turbo 350 w/ TCI 11" converter (can foot brake it to 2800)
Rear: 3.55 posi, using M/T ET Streets at dragstrip

All is installed in a 3400 lb (w/o driver) '70 Chevelle. Best ET to date is
12.90 @ 105 MPH. My track is at 1140 ft elevation.

This is a very torquey and fun-to-drive street combo that pulls well to
5700-5800 RPM. I run 92 octane and dont have any detonation problems. I
would think that a similarly spec'd 383 would run almost as strong.
