John,

I just checked and an Edelbrock Performer version of the
AFB will fit the standard Performer manifold without any
apparent problems. The carb base appears to fully cover
the plenum.

Now, about that intake I offered you. I checked it out
today and here's what I found:

It's casting 3872783 with a date of H 20 5, and
according to my MSA-1 documentation it's for a Holley-
carbed '66 283 or 327. I put an Edelbrock Performer
carb on it and it appears to fit just fine.

I don't have a digital camera so I'll attempt to provide
a detailed description. Imagine that you're looking
down on the manifold with the thermo housing to the
front and the distributor to the rear:

There are 2 small holes connected by a channel just
forward of the front carb ports. It also has 2 water
fitting locations; one sticks out to the left just
forward of the #2 runner and the other to the right just
behind the #1 runner. There appears to be only 1 vacuum
port and it's located between the left rear carb port
and the distributor clamp bolt hole. The first bolt
hole for the accelerator cable bracket is located about
3.25" behind the right rear carb bolt hole and the 2nd
bolt hole is 3.25" from the first and sort of in line
with the first hole and the distributor hole.

It needs a total cleanup but as far as I can tell all
the bolt holes are good; I tapped them this afternoon.
The only one I'm not sure of is the water fitting hole
behind the #1 runner; I don't have a tap or piece of
pipe to fit it and the fitting in the hole ahead of the
#2 runner didn't want to budge so I didn't force it.

I hope this is enough detail. Email me offlist at

Anybody got a used digicam to sell? ;^)
